What is GIFT and where is it located?
GIFT City is an acronym that stands for 'Gujarat International Finance Tec-City', it is India's first operational greenfield smart city and international financial services centre. GIFT City is located on the banks of the Sabarmati river in Gandhinagar, Gujarat (a state in western India). GIFT City is divided into two zones -
(1) Domestic Tariff Area (DTA): This zone is meant for domestic companies and is subject to Indian laws and regulations. Companies operating within this zone can cater to the domestic market and benefit from various tax incentives offered by the Indian government.

GIFT IFSC is established in 2015 as a financial hub to provide world-class infrastructure and services for financial institutions and companies operating in areas such as banking, insurance, capital markets, and asset management.
Who is the regulator at GIFT IFSC?
GIFT IFSC is regulated by a unified regulatory authority named as the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). It has been established on April 27, 2020 under the International Financial Services Centres Authority Act, 2019 and is headquartered at GIFT City, Gandhinagar in Gujarat. As a unified authority the role of IFSCA is to develop and regulate the financial products, financial services and financial institution. The main objective of IFSCA is to develop a strong global connect and focus on the needs of the Indian economy as well as to serve as an international financial platform for the entire region and the global economy as a whole.
